Ann Manix Biography for Women’s Leadership Success
Ann’s career spans corporate management, Board, and not-for-profit
experience. She was President of the Hallen Company, which manufactured
and marketed the Screwpull corkscrew globally. Clients include Harrods,
Williams Sonoma, and Bloomingdales. Subsequently, she joined Ducker
Research as Managing Partner specializing in business-to-business industrial
research, branding and competitive intelligence. Clients include Rockwell
Automation, Emerson Electric, The Gas Association among others.
Ann has served as an outside director on a number of NYSE
Boards, including Baroid Corporation (BRC), an oilfield company, General
Housewares (NYSE) (GHC) which owns the OXO and Chicago Cutlery
brands, and NL Industries (NYSE) (NL), a chemical company. Ann currently
serves on the Board of CompX (NYSE) (CIX) which manufactures
components for the security, office and marine products industries.
As chair of capital fundraising for the Village Women’s Club, she assembled and
managed a team to successfully raise $2.7 million for this historic women’s
civic organization. She served as President of Friends of Oakland Family
Services from 2003-2005, where she directed all fundraising activities for this
group of 300 volunteers. She has served on the non-profit boards of: The
Houston Area Urban League, Oakland Family Services and Big Sisters of
Orange County.

CompX is a leading manufacturer of locking systems, precision ball bearing slides, gauges and exhaust systems for high performance boats. The company is nearly $300 million in revenues with offices worldwide.
- Chair of the Compensation committee and member of the Audit committee. Headed up a number of independent director assignments.
NL Industries (NYSE: NL) Dallas, Texas 2002-2004
NL is a global producer of titanium dioxide pigments. Sales were $1B in 2002. NL was previously National Lead and subjected to many lead paint lawsuits keeping the Board very active.
- Chairman Audit Committee and Member compensation committee. Had the opportunity to be on this Board with General Tom Stafford, USAF ( RET)
General Housewares Corporation (NYSE: GHC) Terre Haute, Indiana 1994 to 1999
This firm owned among significant brands, Chicago Cutlery and OXO Gadgets. The firm was acquired by Corning.

Elected to serve on the Board of Directors of this NYSE oilfield service company and voted in by shareholders in 1990 until purchase by Dresser Ind. in 1994. Served with Admiral Elmo Zumwalt
Served as senior outside director and actively participated in all board meetings and committee meetings. Worked directly with the Chairman on policy development and problem solving.
Have made investor relation road show trips to meet with major shareholders. Participated in major acquisitions and divestitures, a LYONS deal, a reverse spin-off, and finally the “pooling” of Baroid and Dresser.

Managed engineering, manufacturing, and marketing functions to introduce new products to the oil and gas industry.

Complete responsibility for sales, installation and follow-up of computer-controlled turning machine tools in Orange, San Diego, and Los Angeles counties.
