Randy is a principal in the Executive Development Group LLC, Greensboro, NC, an adjunct professor at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, and an adjunct instructor for Duke Corporate Education in Durham and London.
Randy’s interest in where leaders come from, how they develop, and their eventual success is borne out in his writing. As co-author of Breaking the Glass Ceiling and The Future of Leadership, he has had a major impact on the way women are viewed as leaders and the importance of less easily measured leadership skills like dealing with uncertainty. His book Relax, It’s Only Uncertainty (London: Financial Times, 2001) co authored with Phil Hodgson, expands their earlier research on how leaders can be more effective by embracing rather than avoiding uncertainty.
Randy White has also written in both popular and scientific outlets on leadership. He has a critically acclaimed piece on different types of executive coaching (first published in the Consulting Psychologist). His works include a chapter with Sheila Kampa for the Handbook of Organizational Consulting Psychology and chapters with Phil Hodgson in The Many Facets of Leadership and Leading and Managing People in the Dynamic Organization. He is currently writing with his business partner, Sandra Shullman, a book titled From Therapist to Executive Coach: Working with Leaders in Organizational Settings.
Randy’s work in leadership development regularly takes him to Canada, Europe, South America, and Pacific Asia. He is a frequent speaker for a variety of industry groups, including the Institute for Management Studies and the Conference Board of the US and Canada. His list of current consulting clients includes Progress Energy, Siemens AG, E*TRADE, Kennametal, T-Systems, New York Life, NYFIX, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Save the Children, and United Way.
Randy White is a Fellow and Immediate Past President of Division 13 (Society of Consulting Psychologists) of the American Psychological Association and a Fellow of Division 1 (General Psychology). He has chaired the program committee for Division 13’s Mid-Winter Conference and has offered a pre-conference workshop on executive coaching at several APA national conventions. Randy is a former board member of the American Society of Training & Development and serves as a reviewer for Financial Times/Pearson Education. He was a Salzburg Fellow on Women’s Issues in 1997.
Randy holds an AB from Georgetown University, an MS from Virginia Tech, and a PhD from Cornell. He is a tennis player and a competitive sailor.
